What is BRIAS?
Founded in Brazil in 2019 by Aldo Munchen, the Belt and Road Ibero-American Association aims to foster collaboration and partnership between Ibero-American nations and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). With a deep understanding of the transformative potential that lies within regional cooperation, BRIAS strives to create synergies and unlock new opportunities for sustainable development.
BRIAS serves as a platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collective action, facilitating a comprehensive approach to address the complex challenges and seize the vast potential for economic growth and social progress. By bringing together governments, businesses, academic institutions, and civil society organizations, BRIAS fosters an inclusive and participatory environment where diverse perspectives converge to shape impactful strategies and initiatives.
Our Objectives
BRIAS represents an exciting platform that brings together countries from the Ibero-American region, spanning Latin America, Spain, Portugal, and other Iberian-speaking nations. With a shared vision for sustainable development, connectivity, and economic growth, BRIAS acts as a catalyst for fostering closer ties, promoting mutual understanding, and leveraging the immense opportunities presented by the BRI.
The Belt and Road Initiative, proposed by China, is a globally significant development strategy that seeks to enhance trade, infrastructure, and cultural exchange among participating countries. BRIAS recognizes the potential of this initiative in promoting inclusive and mutually beneficial cooperation between Ibero-American nations and BRI member states.
Sustainability Goals
BRIAS is deeply committed to advancing the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By aligning our efforts with these global goals, BRIAS aims to contribute to a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable future for Ibero-American nations and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) community.
Through strategic partnerships and collaboration, BRIAS actively promotes the implementation of the SDGs across various sectors, including infrastructure development, trade facilitation, environmental protection, social inclusion, and cultural exchange. By leveraging the strengths and expertise of our diverse network, we strive to address the pressing challenges faced by our regions and accelerate progress towards achieving the SDGs.
BRIAS recognizes the pivotal role that sustainable infrastructure plays in driving economic growth, reducing inequality, and promoting environmental sustainability. By emphasizing responsible and resilient infrastructure development, we aim to create opportunities that enhance connectivity, foster innovation, and ensure long-term sustainability, in alignment with SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure).
Environmental sustainability lies at the heart of BRIAS' mission, reflecting our commitment to SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 14 (Life Below Water) and SDG 15 (Life on Land). By fostering green and sustainable practices, we seek to mitigate climate change, protect biodiversity, and promote responsible resource management across our regions.
Cultural exchange and people-to-people connectivity are essential components of BRIAS' work, aligning with SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). We actively promote dialogue, cooperation, and mutual understanding between Ibero-American nations and BRI partners, facilitating the exchange of knowledge, ideas, and cultural heritage to strengthen regional cooperation and build resilient institutions.
BRIAS is dedicated to harnessing the potential of the Belt and Road Initiative to accelerate progress towards the SDGs, ensuring that economic growth and development go hand in hand with social inclusion, environmental protection, and responsible governance. Together, we strive to create a sustainable and prosperous future for all, leaving no one behind on our collective journey towards achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
